Paddling season is underway.

Looking for a relaxing paddle nearby? Don’t want to have to load and unload your own boat? Then join us for a day on the Schuylkill River in Manayunk on Sunday, June 27 at 10 am (rain date TBD). Hidden River Outfitters has generously offered the use of their kayaks for a nominal charge of $20, and we will have use of the boats for the day. Enjoy a leisurely paddle downriver to the Philadelphia Canoe Club, or a more aerobic paddle upriver to the end of the Flat Rock whitewater run where you can sun on the rocks. After-wards enjoy lunch and your favorite beverage at the Manayunk Brew Pub, or just stroll thru Manayunk. Free parking will be available in the municipal lot off Lock Street, just past (or before, depending on how you go there!) the brew pub. There is a limit of 10 for this event. Contact Mike Fernandez (609-254-8461 or email amf.snj@gmail.com for details or to reserve a spot. The trip is suitable for beginners, and instruction is available.

2010 Winooski Sojourn

In 2010, the Winooski Sojourn is scheduled for June 22nd through June 27th. The theme for this year’s Sojourn is “Exploring the Flora and Fauna of the Winooski Watershed”. The Sojourn will feature a ‘floating naturalist’, who will help participants find plants, birds, animal signs and, in general, develop a better understand the landscape surrounding them. You can do a day, or the whole thing. You will see and learn many things. Visit the website www.winooskiriver.org/sojourn_pages/SojournMain.htm  and contact Ann Smith for information at <asmithinvt@yahoo.com>.

Check The Philadelphia Canoe Club (PCC) web site www.philacanoe.org  for their current schedule.
